Know the break room thing - though a friend of mine had the weirdest break room story - he was working for one of the big chains that no longer exist (I think Sears but not sure), went in the break room to read and two women came in complaining about awful dates and how artificial dating was and he jumped in with one of his own dating disaster stories. Ten minutes later one of the women saw the time and ran back to her register. The other.... Asked him out on a date. Five months later, they were both enrolled in advanced degree programs at the same college and bought a house together (neither one was interested in marriage at the time)... Four months later he came home after having a class end early to find her in bed with another guy... Last I heard he was married to another woman, teaching high school, and had two kids.
This is the stuff of my nightmares. Decades working in retail will crush your soul and haunt you forever. Why is it still funny?
“Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall into an open sewer and die.” Mel Brooks
Yes. And if you can’t see the humour in it, it’s already killed you.
Or the store has stopped carrying it (looking at you, Costco!)
