This did, indeed, happen. Years ago. I was working at a very busy customer service desk and this guy tried to get his daughter to apologize to me. I forget what her offense was. She wasn't throwing anything.
Luckily, work allowed me to excuse myself from the very awkward situation and the father and daughter went to sit on a bench and wait.
They waited a pretty long time.
Finally, the girl gave what I considered a non-apology (mostly because I'm not really sure if she was actually speaking) and the father left with her.
I think the dad made a compromise in his mind that was clearly in his daughter's favor.
Still, I'm all for good discipline practices but I'm not sure that asking somebody to stop work when it's very busy and wait out a daughter's iron will is the best approach.
